SHELLED WHEELFISH
Rotamissi frenesa
Habitat: open, dark waters and underwater cliffs
Diet: smaller fish, jellyfish
Diameter: 0.5m

The shelled wheelfish uses an unusual tactic to move around the deep sea: instead of swimming with fins or propulsive methods, the wheelfish rotates itself and uses the hook-like appendages on its shell to grip onto underwater cliffs or the ocean floor, essentially rolling itself along the bottom of the ocean or up and down rocks. It can also increase its rotation speed to slice up predators or smaller fish like a saw before eating them with the beak-like mouth on its underside.
