Book 1:

Legends of Tess Cover

It's been a long time coming, but it's finally here! My first ever full-length novel! A year, 300 pages, and 16 chapters after starting it, and it's been finished at last.

Legends of Tess is the first book I've written, and is the first story in a big collection of stories that I plan to continually expand on. The collection/series takes place in a galaxy far from here called Zysti galaxy (P.S., I went over a bunch this stuff in the home page. Check it out!). Legends of Tess takes place on a planet in that galaxy called, well, Tess, and it follows some pretty interesting people that happen to live there.

To say that writing a book for the first time (or at all) is easy could not be farther from the truth. It was, undoubtedly, hard. But it absolutely paid off, and it's hard to be happier about the final product that I have now.

The book revolves around a key concept: Vals. Essentially, Vals are abilities that let Valins, people who control Vals, manipulate and bend the world around them. The book at its core is how people with Vals affect the world the book takes place in.

This concept, which I thought was pretty cool during conception, results in the capability for something even cooler- Val battles. In the book, Val battles appear in the form of action-packed battles between people called Valins. Since Vals encompass a huge range of things, from telekinesis, to mind control, to manipulating and freezing light, the fights end up being really interesting, with tons and tons of different dynamics to play with.

Originally, I didn't have any main goal in mind for the book, aside from of course finishing it and adding the Val battles I previously mentioned. But over time I switched my mindset to focus on other important things about a book, in this case, those things being worldbuilding and storytelling.

And in the end, I feel like I met those goals. This was my first time doing any worldbuilding, storytelling, or just writing in general, but I feel very satisfied with what I have, the worldbuilding bit especially.

That's pretty much all I can say here without spoiling the book, so I just guess you'll have to read it to find out the rest ;) Enjoy!

When I finished writing Legends of Tess: Wild World, I thought that was a long journey. The Shades, clocking in at almost two and a half years of development, knocks my first out of the park in this regard!

The Shades has a common motif running through it that I hold dearly to my heart: weather. I've always been interested in the weather and what makes it work, from the seasons, to storms, and everything in between. Aside from a mysterious, gargantuan storm being the main plot point in the story, I tried to incorporate as best as I could what it feels like to be in the kind of weather the characters were experiencing in any given scene.

Like Legends of Tess: Wild World, The Shades takes place in Zysti galaxy (again, learn more about Zysti on the home page!), and Vals are an important part of the story. However, The Shades is not a sequel to my first book--rather, it runs parallel to Legends of Tess: Wild World on a different planet. New story, new characters, but same galaxy. You don't have to read Legends of Tess first to understand this one, but I sure would appreciate it!

In this book I delve deeper into the worldbuilding behind Zysti galaxy some more, usually in passing. I feel like The Shades is a great addition to my first book, and I greatly enjoyed expanding on the story of Zysti galaxy through this next book.

For this book, I tried to take a more professional approach to the publishing process, particularly editing. I had the help of a professional editor to sharpen up the story, and instead of pure self-publishing, I'm publishing it with the help of BookBaby, a self-publishing company who I'm very thankful took me on. Because of these things, you can expect a more professional product than my first book!

Because of the more complicated story, this book's development was far longer than the first one, but I'm incredibly happy with the final product. I hope you enjoy the story of The Shades, taking place in the only town on the strangest planet in the galaxy!

DO YOU BELIEVE IN GHOSTS?
Flint does, especially since he is one. But, Flint’s sense of purpose died along with him, and a century after his own death, he struggles to find meaning in his immortality. His galaxy’s interstellar war has been at a stalemate for nearly a hundred years, and nothing that Flint does in the conflict seems to make a difference.
But things change when Flint makes a shocking discovery that could give him the sense of purpose he seeks in his strange existence—a discovery so great that its mere existence could bring an end to the galaxy’s endless war.
