I like the idea of doing a brief look into my vision of an interesting apocalypse where you have to figure out what happened on your own! Almost like Hollow Knight!
Just a bunch of cool glowy neon stuff? That sounds hard to do! So does above honestly—it might be best to keep it simple!
My opinions on nuclear energy, juxtaposing popular belief and fear with fact? The first half could be the public’s view of nuclear, hazardous waste everywhere, people dying and ruined cities
Then there could be a twist—the first half leads people to think that’s what will happen if we use nuclear energy, but it’s actually going to be the state of the world if we continue using coal and non-nuclear options. Then, the zine should finish showing the effects on the world if we actually use nuclear energy instead of our current unsustainable options, which is so much more peaceful than expected
Either take the angle where you juxtapose the public’s view on nuclear with the reality of nuclear, or do a bait-and-switch where you make the reader think they’re looking at an anti-nuclear zine at the start, but they’re actually looking at the reality of what the world will look like if we continue down the path of NOT using nuclear instead of coal or gas
If you do the latter, show lots of destroyed nuclear power plants and painted-over signs of “warning, radioactive waste”
I’m very passionate about climate change and the ways we can mitigate it, and I’m a firm believer that nuclear power is a realistic cleaner energy solution that the majority of people have vastly misunderstood. I plan on inspiring my zine with both this passion that I have towards reframing nuclear energy in people’s minds, and by portraying the terrible state the world will be in if we don’t act against climate change in time. Apocalypse scenarios, as terrible as they are, are also very fascinating to me, and I want to see if I can portray an interesting one in my zine.
