It would be cool to do some kind of horror-esque soundscape designed to sound foreboding.
Maybe the sounds of an abandoned city/ghost town, where little pieces of the city while it was alive keep leaking through? That would be interesting! You could also provide some hints as to what happened to that city in the soundscape!
I want to find a variety of ambient sounds to set the mood, and then maybe a few repetitive foreboding sounds (like pounding) to illicit fear and emotion in the places I want it to.
While doing the lab, I discovered a number of presets that make the sounds you apply to it distorted in just the way I want them. I love mysteries, especially mystery-thrillers, and I want to attempt to create one with this soundscape by creating an atmosphere of a place that doesn’t exist but has still fallen apart from what it once was. It’s up to the listener to figure out what happened by immersing themselves in the world I want to create.
I want to take inspiration from ambient post-rock album F#A#∞ to help me set the mood I want, since that album does a great job of creating a desolate, intense audio experience.
Rough guideline for the project:
Sounds of our protagonist (the one exploring the city) sitting by a fire just outside of the city at night
Flashback to the protagonist entering a large residential building
They walk into what was once a coffee shop/public area
After wandering it for a moment, they hear echoes of the past
They move on, heading towards a more residential area/where someone lived
Push open the creaky door
Nobody is left, but more echoes of the past can be heard here
After wandering around a little longer, they start to hear thumping. Is it even real?
They escape the building and walk outside, where wind blows
