My final artwork was supposed to be a juxtaposition between the widespread public’s view of the use of nuclear energy against the reality of the situation and the potential benefits to the world if we were to embrace it. Conveying this idea ended up being far more difficult than I expected without the use of words, but I am generally proud of the way I did it. I think more visual cues could have been used to explain the benefits of nuclear energy and explain what I was going for. The main idea was to make people doubt their current view towards nuclear energy, and I think that part at least was conveyed well. It didn’t change much from my original idea, but I do find it interesting that this was the less complex of the two ideas I was throwing around—I am very glad I chose the easier option, because I struggled enough with this one already. Next time, I plan on picking a less ambitious idea that will require me to convey less complex ideas through my medium, while still picking something I am passionate about and will enjoy working on.
I learned what sorts of things are and aren’t easy to make in photoshop and illustrator—in photoshop, it’s very easy to edit images and apply filters, but it wasn’t nearly as easy to make simple shapes and do drawings as it was in Illustrator. I can tell it will take some getting used to those software to be able to use them efficiently, but it’s clear even now how versatile they are, especially Illustrator.
